Lynn Walker3 StarNovember 2023 Updated Review (3 Stars)
As mentioned in other reviews, Dr. Luis Lu retired sometime after November 2022. Happy for Dr. Lu, but very sorry to see him go. I’ve had a few phone interactions with Petelin Vision, and none came close to the 5 star service received when they were Eye Consultants of Arizona. Long hold times, messages not returned, and a nonchalant attitude when you actually speak to a human being. Reminds me of BDPEC where you’re little more than a number. 3 stars as doctors might be okay, but poor front office service has prompted me to search for a new ophthalmologist.
November 2022 Review (5 Stars)
Dr. Luis Lu/Eye Consultants of Arizona is a great example of how a medical practice should operate. A live person answers the phone and everyone is greeted with a smile. The front office staff and techs are professional, friendly, and efficient.
Dr. Luis Lu is warm and kind, and takes time to explain results and treatment options thoroughly. Appointment wait time was minimal, I was neither rushed nor treated like a number, and I believe they value me as a patient.
I am thoroughly impressed with Dr. Lu and Eye Consultants of Arizona and highly recommend this practice. Dr. Lu is out of network on my insurance, but I chose to pay cash to be treated by Dr. Lu. By far the best experience I’ve had with a medical practitioner in years!Monday 8th April 2024
DBS DeSoto5 StarUpdate 12/16/22: I discovered that Dr Lu has sold his practice. The new company does not have the same exceptional standards of customer care Dr Lu and his son do. On the contrary, they don’t return calls. When one does get through, the office staff is abominably rude.
Original November post: Dr Lu gets 10 stars, his office staff gets zero. My wife and I found Dr Lu when we moved to Arizona 6 years ago and have used him since. This year we tried to make appointments and called 15-20 times over two weeks leaving a message about 5 times and never received a call back. A month later, my wife got through today. New employee, exceptionally rude and disrespectful. Dr Lu and his son are the nicest, most professional people. How they manage to hire such incredibly rude office personnel is a mystery to me. You’ve been forewarned.Friday 16th December 2022
Blanca Johnson1 StarDr. Lu is an amazing Dr. I have seen him once and he was very helpful. However, since then I have called to schedule an appointment in two occasions. First, time I was told the office staff was on lunch. I never received a call back. Last time I was told he had no appointments until two months out, I explained that I only can see with one eye and I was having issues with that one eye. I was asked to wait and I did for 13 min and I was hang up on. I hope he can read this review and teach his office staff to be professional and helpful with his patients. Sadly the person that I was talking to was the office manger, by the name of Yani. For future patients I was told he is not excepting new patients since I wanted my mom to see him. No excuse to be so unprofessional. Please take your business to a more caring facility.Wednesday 9th November 2022
Ernie Brodersen1 StarWhen we arrived there were around 20 people in the waiting room and virtually no vacant seats. New patients arrived faster than those waiting were seen and few left. When a seat opened patients jockeyed for a spot. Among those waiting were two in wheel chairs, one with a cane and I believe another with a walker. I have no problem standing but some of the eldery patients would. Noting that our appointment was already 15-20 past and most of those waiting were there when we arrived, I asked the over burdened receptionist when we could expect to be called and saw her scan past at 6-8 names to reach us. I was politely told that there was only one doctor. It seemed apparent that it would take hours to attend to all of those who were waiting. To my shame, I expressed my dismay to receptionist who clearly wasn't responsible for the log jam and inconvenience to the patients. My wife, who is much kinder and than I, ushered me out the door and chastised me for being rude. I can't imagine any other business that could keep customers waiting like that. It seemd that ther goal was to see as many patients as possible rather than provide the best health care to them. We won't be back but I owe the receptioinst and apology.Thursday 24th August 2023
Jamie Sistek5 StarMy husband somehow got a piece of metal in his eye, but was just thinking it was some sand or dirt and kept trying to flush it himself.
After three days, I convinced him to go to urgent care. They told him it was a rust ring, a small piece of metal embedded, and used a needle to try and get most of the metal out. It was the weekend, but urgent care told him he needed to see an ophthalmologist right away.
After finding several people referring Dr. Luis Lu as the best, we contacted his office first thing Monday morning and they were able to get my husband in that afternoon.
Dr. Lu did different diagnostic tests and was so thorough in showing us the images and explaining not only what needed to be done, but also the health of his eye and body through the eye.
He also told us the risks urgent care took with potentially perforating the eye. It takes a special tool, not a needle. Even though the girl at urgent care was very nice, that could have been a huge problem.
Dr. Lu did the special procedure in the office right then, it went fantastic, and healed perfectly.
We also met his son, Dr. Andrew Lu. What a great duo! Loved the friendliness of the staff, as well!
Looking forward to seeing him for MY eye exam, although... I'm like Rachel in Friends. I'm hopeful he will be able to put me at ease, too.Monday 18th October 2021
