Amy Keding
Dr. Amy Keding is originally from Northbrook, Illinois. She completed her bachelor’s degree in Chemistry at the University of New Hampshire while also playing on the collegiate volleyball team. She then went on to receive her Doctor of Optometry Degree from the Illinois College of Optometry, graduating magna cum laude. She recently worked for a prominent eye institute in the Valley, including an additional year of training in Ocular Disease Management as well as Cataract, Corneal and LASIK surgery Post-Operative Care and Management. She is primarily focused on practicing medical optometry and specializes in keratoconus and other contact lens fittings, though also enjoys comprehensive eye examinations for adults and children of all ages.
Above all, Dr. Amy Keding enjoys traveling and spending time with family when she isn't with patients. She also stays very busy with hiking and biking here in the Valley and escaping to the mountains to ski with her husband when she can.
“I was 12 years old when I asked my mom what the soup of the day was at the lunch spot we were at. She told me it was on the sign out front. I told her I couldn't read it and that is why I was asking her. In disbelief, she brought me in for my first eye exam. I couldn't believe how much glasses helped my vision; especially in school! As I started to excel at competitive sports, contacts were introduced to me; another life changer! Even at my young age, I recognized how important quality vision was to me. As a junior chemistry major in college, I was still debating on what I wanted to do for a career. As I was still juggling teaching versus pursuing a doctorate degree, I finally shadowed my local optometrist. I was immediately excited how all my passions in life fit into this occupation: the medical knowledge, working with individuals, educating patients on eyecare and improving people's lives. I have continued to let these passions drive the course of my career. I started with a medical ophthalmologic practice for 2.5 years to gain knowledge of ocular diseases and surgical techniques. Now, I focus in specialty contact lenses for people with diseases such as Keratoconus. Though I do love the science behind what I do, the best part of my day is getting to know each individual in my chair. I love being able to meet people from all different backgrounds and being able to assist them with all their eyecare needs.”
